Reliable journalist laughs off Twitter transfer rumour about Rangers star Goldson

Suggestions that Rangers defender Connor Goldson is attracting interest from Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday have been laughed off by local reporter Joe Crann.

Crann, who covers Wednesday for The Star, took to social media to respond to suggestions that the Rangers defender was among the club’s potential targets.

Responding to a fan, he joked: “I’m sure he’s desperate to leave a Rangers team on course for the title to join a relegation battle.”

Laughable rumours gathered pace on social media earlier in the week that claimed Goldson was wanted by both Wednesday and Nottingham Forest.

Rangers need not worry about Championship admirers

We are sure that there are plenty of teams in the Championship that would love to have Goldson in their ranks, but the reality is that his form this season shows that he can look beyond that level should the time come to leave Rangers.

Football Insider have recently reported that Premier League clubs have been casting an eye over Goldson amid his impressive form this season.

The Gers are a club very much on the up and competition both in Europe and domestically –  meaning it would take a very tempting offer for the club to consider selling and also for the player himself to consider moving on.

The defender is under contract until 2022, so the club may need to make a decision on his immediate future very soon.

With an average match rating of 7.10 in the Europa League this season, Goldson is performing at the highest level and any suggestions of a move to the Championship in England would be a major step backwards in his career and should be laughed off as nothing more than social media rumours.
