Report: Gerrard set for transfer u-turn as English Championship clubs circle Rangers star

The Daily Record report that Rangers are willing to let Jordan Jones and George Edmundson leave on loan this month.

Rangers are likely in store for a quiet transfer window but the duo aren’t currently part of Steven Gerrard’s plans.

That is due, in part, to the seven-match suspension they each received after breaking Covid-19 rules.

Both players have failed to make an appearance since their suspensions ended, and it is believed Director of Football Ross Wilson is keen for the pair to get game time.

Steven Gerrard had previously said, “they’re good players, we need them here to help and support us moving forward.”

However, it looks like he might be readying a u-turn.

There is rumoured interest from clubs in League One and the Championship, though no particular club has been named yet.

Jones and Edmundson may be the only departures, with Gerrard ruling out moves for his most important players.

Beneficial for all parties

Rangers are in a promising position currently and cannot afford to have players in the squad who could threaten disharmony.

Both the aforementioned players were rightly disciplined for their careless actions, and it may help Gerrard if they were to leave.

It is unlikely it will affect his plans at all, too, since neither player has had much impact at Ibrox.

This season the duo have five appearances between them, and therefore some game time would be beneficial.

A loan move would allow Jones and Edmundson to prove not only their ability but their professionalism.

Their Rangers’ careers are counting on that.

That could lead to some impressive performances and improvement in their game, allowing Gerrard to focus on his goals this season with the knowledge that he has two extra options to call upon in the next campaign.

A temporary move away would also put them in the shop window, so it is a win-win situation.
