‘They were needed’ – Ian Durrant claims Rangers missed duo in Old Firm win v Celtic

Ian Durrant has claimed that Rangers significantly missed injured duo Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield in the 1-0 victory against Celtic on Saturday.

Both are currently ruled out through injury, with Steven Gerrard no clearer on when either will return for crucial upcoming games.

Glen Kamara and Steven Davis continued in midfield in the Old Firm, but the Bears had Allan McGregor to thank for keeping yet another clean sheet.

Speaking on the Blues Brothers Podcast, Durrant claimed that the opening 45 minutes highlighted how big of a loss the midfield pairing is.

“We missed Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield,” he said.

“I thought, especially in the first half. I just hope their injury situations clear up because they were needed, now with the games upcoming.

Ferguson agreed with Durrant, claiming that Arfield, especially, has been a big miss as the Bears miss his running power in the middle of the park in tougher games.

Arfield and Jack would be misses for any club. The midfield duo offers something in each third of the pitch that others can’t bring the Bears.

Nobody gets forward and creates or scores goals like Arfield does from midfield and it is hard to think of a better holding player than the Scottish international.

Alex McLeish exclusively told Ibrox News that the intensity of this special season is to blame for these injury blows, so maybe the Gers are just unlucky they’ve struck in the same position.

Arfield looks set to miss the Aberdeen clash but return for the game with Motherwell, so hopefully, sooner rather than later we can be back to full strength.
