‘MOTM’, ‘Best player on the park’ – Many Rangers fans wowed by one outfielder in win v Celtic

Rangers fans have been waxing lyrical about midfielder Glen Kamara after he shone in the 1-0 win over Celtic at Ibrox on Saturday.

Steven Gerrard’s men moved 19 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership courtesy of an own goal by Callum McGregor in the second half.

Allan McGregor’s performance in goals has been widely talked about by fans and Gerrard himself but Kamara, 25, also gave everyone something to talk about with a superb showing in the Old Firm derby.

According to stats by Wyscout, Kamara completed 97 per cent of his passes against Celtic and found a team-mate with all 15 forward passes he played. The Finland international also made two interceptions, three recoveries and was successful in 64 per cent of his defensive duels.

Kamara joined Rangers two years ago for £50,000 from Dundee. It is crazy to think what he is probably worth now in comparison to that fee.

Gerrard has a real player on his hands and these fans made sure their thoughts were made clear on Twitter after the midfielder stood out against Celtic.

Even though McGregor’s heroics are probably what won the game, one supported dubbed Kamara as “the best player on the park“.

It will be interesting to see what Gerrard will do with his central midfield options over the coming weeks due to Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack being injured.

Kamara, Steven Davis and Joe Aribo have been playing a lot of football lately so Gerrard might want to bring in a bit of rotation after a busy festive period.

However, one good thing is that the fixture congestion has eased off now. Rangers don’t play again for another week and don’t play twice in a week until the end of the month.
