‘Absolutely magnificent’ – Sky Sports pundit blown away by ‘Fantastic’ Rangers ace v Celtic

Rangers can certainly thank Allan McGregor for his role in Saturday’s victory over Celtic, saving his side numerous times in the 1-0 win.

James McFadden was blown away by one of his saves in the first half, as he managed to tip a long-range effort from Leigh Griffiths onto the post.

McGregor hasn’t had much to do this season for the Bears in this magnificent run, but he stepped up when his side desperately needed him.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ live coverage of the game, McFadden claimed the keeper had no right to stop Griffiths from opening the scoring at Ibrox.

“This save is absolutely magnificent,” he said.

“He’s got no right to save that has Allan McGregor, and I know you look at it and say well maybe he expects it, but he still needs to save it.

“It’s a fantastic save from Allan McGregor.”

What a moment this was.

Rangers won’t be able to play well every single week, and when they were struggling on the biggest of occasions in the first-half, McGregor stepped up and made one of the saves of the season.

Steven Gerrard won’t care how his side wins if they pick up three points every single week, and it won’t be the likes of James Tavernier and Kemar Roofe sparkling.

McFadden is right to single out McGregor for his interception, and it wasn’t the only time he saved his side – the big occasions call for the big players, and the keeper is certainly one of them.
