‘No data’ – Steven Gerrard shares verdict on potential mid-season break for Rangers

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has warned against an enforced two-week break due to the increase in the spread of COVID-19.

There were some suggestions around the United Kingdom that the Scottish Premiership and the Premier League could be halted for a fortnight.

Gerrard claimed that there is no scientific data that confirms the break would be beneficial for the potential spread of the virus.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, relayed on Twitter, Gerrard shared his opinion on certain figures calling for a break.

“Football gives people a release and something to watch,” he said.

“It really helps people in their daily routines during Covid. For me, there is also no data to guarantee a two-week break improves the situation.”

Gerrard is spot on.

It may halt the rise of positive findings during the fortnight, but that would just start again after that initial break if players were to break the rules.

The Rangers squad and others are in their own bubbles to prevent their contact with the outside world – something which has been more than enough to continue football this season.

Gerrard and the Bears won’t want anything to stop this run they are on, and the only development during COVID-19 that we would be interested in is the return of fans to Ibrox and other stadiums.
