‘It was time’ – Exclusive: Pundit believes moment in St. Mirren win hands Rangers big boost
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has admitted that Alfredo Morelos finding his form will be a massive boost for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
The Colombian returned to the scoresheet in the 2-0 win at St. Mirren on Wednesday, although it was gifted to him by a sloppy back-pass.
It was Morelos’ first start since his two-game ban and SFA charge, and the smile was back on his face that had been missing for many weeks.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I actually said it was time for Alfredo Morelos to start scoring again so that actually came good.
“If all goes well for him, it all goes well for the squad. It means they don’t have to rely on if Morelos can get into scoring form, although he has been playing in a slightly different role.
“He’s been coming more to the ball and letting the balls go in-behind and it’s worked very well for the likes of Kemar Roofe.”
No matter how Morelos is playing, he will always be a key figure at Ibrox.
The Colombian has been going through a goal-drought recently, and he was gifted the perfect chance to finish that against St. Mirren, and he took it clinically.
No player in the Rangers squad averages more attempts on goal per game than El Bufalo according to WhoScored, and hopefully, this goal will catapult him onto the scoresheet more often.
With the Old Firm game around the corner on Saturday, Morelos will be going into that fierce rivalry licking his lips at the prospect of another goal.
