Sky Sports pundit predicts Rangers v St Mirren, claims injured player ‘will be out for a while’
Rangers will avenge their shock Betfred Cup defeat by beating St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership in Paisley on Wednesday, according to Andy Walker.
Steven Gerrard’s men have lost just once in all competitions this season and that came earlier this month at St Mirren Park in a 3-2 League Cup defeat.
Rangers return to Paisely this week in the league but will be playing without the injured Scott Arfield.
Sky Sports pundit Walker claims Arfield looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines but predicts the Light Blues to come out on top against the Buddies and win 2-1.
“What a game this should be! Rangers only defeat this season came here in Paisley just two weeks ago in a thrilling League Cup tie. For so long this season, Steven Gerrard’s men have hardly looked like conceding a goal, far less losing a game, so to lose three here and miss out on the first chance of silverware was a shock,” Walker wrote on the Sky Sports website.
“Jim Goodwin will be well aware of revenge being in the air, but can take heart from the fact that Jamie McGrath scored twice in that historic cup shock, with Conor McCarthy getting a late winner. I saw Rangers beat Hibs in a tense 1-0 victory at Ibrox at the weekend and it looks as though Scott Arfield will be out for a while after suffering an injury just minutes after coming on to the pitch as a sub.”
Arfield injury concerning
With Ryan Jack already injured, losing Arfield is a big blow for Rangers.
Gerrard has plenty of central midfield options still to choose from with Glen Kamara, Steven Davis, Bongani Zungu and Joe Aribo all able to play there but Arfield has been one of the best performers this term.
The jury, in our opinion, is still out on Zungu’s who’s been a tad inconsistent since his arrival at Ibrox while Davis isn’t getting any younger with his 36th birthday just days away.
Kamara has played a lot this season and Aribo has had injury issues so we’re not far off a bit of an injury crisis unless Gerrard can keep his players fit for the coming weeks while Arfield and Jack recover.
Hopefully neither of them are out for too long but it doesn’t sound promising from what’s been released by the Gers in recent days.
In other Rangers news, terms have been agreed for this attacker to leave on loan.
