‘£3m or less’, ‘Davis replacement’ – Many fans urge Rangers to re-sign player in superb form

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to re-sign former academy product Lewis Ferguson from Aberdeen.

Ferguson, 21, has been in superb form at Pittodrie this season by scoring nine goals and supplying four assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.

According to stats by Wyscout, the Scotland Under-21s midfielder has a pass accuracy of 82.4 per cent of in the Scottish Premiership this term while he’s also hit the target with 40.7 per cent of his shots, which ranks him 12th in the league and fifth out of non-strikers.

Rangers have a bit of an injury crisis in the midfield at the moment with Ryan Jack not playing since the Gers beat Aberdeen over a month ago and Scott Arfield also suffering a setback.

It remains to be seen how active Steven Gerrard will be in the January transfer window but it seems that plenty of fans would be happy for the Light Blues to push forward with a bid to re-sign Ferguson from Aberdeen.

Ferguson’s father Derek Ferguson and uncle Barry Ferguson are both iconic former players at Ibrox so there’s a good chance that the Dons ace would be interested in a move to Glasgow.

However, would he feel as though he would get enough first-team opportunities there?

As some fans pointed out, Gerrard will need to find a long-term replacement for Steven Davis soon with the 35-year-old approaching the end of his career and also the end of his contract at Ibrox, which expires in the summer.

Ferguson might be a solid long-term option to step into Davis’ shoes if the Northern Irishman leaves.
