‘They can do it’ – Neil Lennon fires Old Firm warning to Rangers after Celtic win

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has suggested that the Hoops could go on and win next week’s Old Firm derby against Rangers.

Speaking after his side’s comfortable 3-0 victory against Hamilton, as reported by the Daily Record, Lennon admitted that his team are becoming more and more confident as the wins continue to stack up: “I wouldn’t make predictions about the game at Ibrox, it’s too early for that.

“But are they capable of going there and winning? Yeah, they’ve proved in the past they can do it. We’ve got Dundee United first on Wednesday so it’s one step at a time. But we’re moving forward in the right direction.”

Having kicked off at lunchtime, Rangers temporarily moved 19 points clear at the top of the table.

Celtic responded immediately with a victory that cut the lead straight back to 16, with the Hoops still having three games in hand.

Attention is already beginning to turn to the next derby at Ibrox, a game which many believe could be season-defining for both clubs.

Rangers remain favourites

Celtic’s upturn in form cannot be overlooked. In all competitions, the Hoops have now won five on the spin, securing a memorable win over Lille and Hearts in the Scottish Cup final along the way.

That being said, Rangers simply have to remain as the favourites going into the game.

The Gers are still yet to lose a single game in the Premiership this season and in recent weeks are showing a real maturity in their performances.

After a shock defeat to St Mirren in the League Cup, the Gers were forced to respond with a strong performance against St Johnstone and the Boxing Day win against Hibernian was a hard-fought one.

Rangers are currently top of WhoScored’s form table, as Steven Gerrard’s men lead the way in Europe this season for their domestic record.

While the Gers are also on the longest streak, as per WhoScored, so Gerrard’s men can enter the game with confidence and deservedly as favourites.
