‘It’s impossible’ – Boyd makes bold claim about Celtic fans ahead of Rangers clash

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has claimed that Celtic don’t have the ability to catch the Gers in this season’s Scottish Premiership title race.

Rangers have won their last 11 league matches and sit 16 points clear of their Old Firm rivals, though Celtic have three games in hand.

Boyd believes that despite the optimism at Parkhead after the Bhoys won the Scottish Cup, the Hoops don’t have it in them to pip the Light Blues to the title.

Speaking in The Scottish Sun, Boyd said, “Rangers have put Celtic under more pressure than they’ve felt for a decade and I don’t see them letting up any time soon.

“That’s why the Celtic fans who are rightly basking in the glory of the unprecedented 12 straight trophies are also worried at the same time.

“Yes, they have three games in hand but I’m not sure they have the ability to close the 16-point gap — and with a trip to Ibrox just seven days away, it’s impossible not to have one eye on the Old Firm game.”

January’s Old Firm could make or break either side’s season, the importance of this game cannot be understated.

If Rangers win, they will deal a hammer blow to the Hoops’ title chances as they pull further away from their city rivals.

A Celtic win on enemy territory would equally be a huge blow for Steven Gerrard’s side as it would be a first league loss of the season and it may give Celtic the boost they need to mount a comeback.

A draw would suit Rangers as that result wouldn’t change anything in the eyes of many but we’re sure that a draw isn’t on Gerrard’s agenda.

It is maybe too far to say that the title could be won on January 2 but a win for either side could massively shift the balance of the title race at this crucial point in the season.

Celtic fans may be happy with their 12 trophies but we all know that 10 in a row is the priority at Parkhead and January’s Old Firm could be vital for Rangers as they attempt to make ’10IAR’ nothing more than a dream.
