Herald & Times journo shares what Michael Beale did on touchline in Rangers 3-0 win v Saints

Herald & Times journalist Aidan Smith kept a close eye on Rangers’ first-team coach Michael Beale on Wednesday night as the Light Blues won 3-0 away at St Johnstone.

Beale, who’s previously worked at Chelsea, Liverpool and Sao Paulo, has found himself to be a popular member of Steven Gerrard’s coaching at Ibrox among supporters.

While Gerrard takes a lot of credit for Rangers’ new lease of life in recent years, Beale’s role has often gone understated.

Smith reported via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday night to show just how involved the coach is in Gerrard’s in-game decisions.

“Was sat right behind Michael Beale tonight. What a tactician he is – constantly talking players through the game and in the ear of Steven Gerrard,” the journalist said.

“Offers advice to the substitutes too on how they could influence the game from the bench. A real key figure for Rangers.”

Everyone pulling their weight

Rangers’ impressive start to this season cannot be put down to Gerrard’s tactics, coaching or team selection. It cannot be put down to James Tavernier’s ridiculously good goalscoring record. It cannot be put down to Beale’s tactical advice for Gerrard.

It’s down to loads and loads of people doing their jobs impeccably well at Ibrox and Auchenhowie.

It’s not just the players, it’s not just the coaches, it’s not just the rest of the backroom staff and it’s not just the board.

Everyone has played a role.

We only see the tip of the iceberg when 11 players take to the pitch once or twice a week and that can lead to some fans forgetting just how much hard work has gone into this.

And, of course, we cannot underestimate Celtic’s role in this too.

They’ve been absolutely awful from the board, to the manager, to the players and to the fans.
