‘Badly wrong’, ‘Awful’ – These Rangers fans react to key update for clash v Celtic

Bobby Madden has been confirmed as the referee for January’s Old Firm derby between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox, as per the Daily Record.

The two sides meet on 2 January after a busy Christmas period, in a game that could be crucial for the Gers’ title charge.

Madden was the man in the middle back in September – when he sent off now out-of-favour Rangers man Jordan Jones.

He has not been in charge of a derby game since, but he will now be tasked with controlling the two sides once again – albeit with no fans in the stadium.

Madden has come in for a lot of criticism from Rangers fans with the spotlight on the level of officiating in Scotland.

Steven Gerrard’s side have already come out victorious in one Old Firm meeting this season and will no doubt be hoping for a repeat to kick off 2021 in style.

Two goals from Connor Goldson was enough for the away side back in October.

The meeting at Ibrox could go some way to deciding this year’s champions, with the Gers currently leading their rivals by a massive 16 points.

In the run-up to the game with Celtic, Rangers face a crucial run of games against St. Johnstone, Hibernian and St Mirren before welcoming the former to Ibrox.

Neil Lennon’s men do have three games in hand over Rangers, but a win against the Hoops would surely shatter any hopes of 10-in-a-row.

These Rangers supporters on social media have been giving their thoughts and opinions on the Madden news and here are some of the best reactions…
