'All the nonsense' - Journalist suggests Gerrard no longer trusts Rangers star

Gordon Parks of the Daily Record has suggested that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard does not trust Alfredo Morelos in key games.

Speaking in a recent roundtable article for the Daily Record, Parks claimed that Morelos, in his opinion, has fallen behind Kemar Roofe as the Gers’ leading striker, “Yes. There’s a professionalism and application without all the nonsense, which has Roofe ahead of Morelos now.

“It’s all about trust going into a crucial phase of the season and the Englishman can be counted on without the need to worry about damaging petulance.”

Morelos missed both games against St Mirren and Motherwell after he was handed a two-match ban for a tackle on Mark Connolly during the win against Dundee United.

Roofe, on the other hand, put in a dazzling Man of the Match performance and scored twice during the 3-1 win against Motherwell.

Roofe stepping up when it counts

The Englishman has been a key figure in Rangers’ success in recent weeks, scoring six times in his last 10 appearances across all competitions.

Roofe’s performance against Motherwell in particular highlights his importance to Gerrard’s side and how valuable he has become.

In their time of need, trailing 1-0 in an important moment of the season, Roofe puts in a Man of the Match performance and not only equalised but goes on to score the third too.

Former Rangers man Brian Laudrup has hailed the player as a ‘difference maker’, meanwhile Michael Beale recently lauded him as a ‘leader’ within the Rangers attack.

Everything points towards a player that both the squad and Gerrard can rely on and the same cannot be said for Morelos.

The Colombian has been sent off seven times during his Rangers career and has amassed 41 yellow cards in 160 appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

Rangers are approaching a crucial run of fixtures in their title charge and it will be telling to see how Morelos fits back into the team following his period on the sidelines.
