Transfer decision to get green light within 48hrs in major Rangers boost – report
Rangers are poised to be handed a major transfer boost in the coming days, according to reports from the Daily Record.
They claim that an appeal from the Joint Response Group has been successful, with Scottish football set to have ‘special permission’ that will allow them to work under pre-Brexit transfer rules during the January transfer window.
There was serious concern for both Rangers and Celtic earlier in the window, with the impending Brexit rules meaning the Gers may miss out on Juan Alegria.
Under the new English rules, Alegria would not qualify for a work permit, but a January deal is now likely to be completed.
Great news for Rangers and Scottish football
The report claims that under the new rules, Rangers can still freely sign players from countries like Austria, Croatia and Switzerland.
Scouring these smaller European nations and leagues has been a huge asset for the Gers in recent years and the potential deal to bring in Alegria is no different.
He, as Alfredo Morelos did, would be arriving from Finland at a young age and could be a regular fixture at Ibrox for years to come.
What happens next for Alegria remains to be seen – it had been reported that the promising young striker could head out on loan straight away to pursue more first-team opportunities.
Regardless, Steven Gerrard and the club will no doubt be delighted to get the young prospect on board as they continue to future-proof the squad.
Such drastic limitations on Scottish clubs and who they can sign could have had a big knock-on effect to both the calibre of players we see moving to and from Scotland, but also the financial benefits that come with that transfer movement.
