Ibrox View: BBC delivers pitiful defence after new accusations of Celtic bias – it must change

Rangers have made their views very clear on the BBC and its bias towards Celtic.

In the recent AGM, MD Stewart Robertson brought up the long-running dispute saying, “This is a long-running saga, unfortunately. It’s over five years that we’ve had a dispute with the BBC.

“We’ve had issues with the manner the BBC have reported on the club and its players and employees in the past and we feel we weren’t getting a fair and balanced narrative from the BBC.”

There’s no smoke without fire.

And the BBC was moved to defend its coverage again after Celtic-centric commentary in the Scottish Cup Final on Sunday.

Hearts fans were furious after the commentary from commentators Liam McLeod and Billy Dodds were heavily biased towards Celtic during the game, when Hearts almost caused a major shock.

Talking afterwards the BBC said, “Our extensive live coverage of this exciting final was fair to both sides.” [Daily Record]

The problem for the BBC is that they’re obviously looking at things in their own vacuum.

When you’ve got a long-running dispute with the biggest team in Scotland and others are complaining that you’re in bed with Celtic, you need to come out from the prism you’re looking at the game through and start again.

It can’t be a case of just trotting out the same line, saying, ‘We’re right and everyone else is wrong”.

Celtic have dominated the game in Scotland in recent years but their time at the top is coming to an end.

The BBC needs to properly address the issues with their coverage and stop simply blindly defending what they’re doing and telling everyone else in the game in Scotland that there’s no issue.
