Gary McAllister has delivered a key fitness update ahead of the Rangers game against St Johnstone on Wednesday night.

Ryan Jack won’t make the game but the good news is that he has trained for the past couple of days and he could be back for the game against Hibs on Boxing Day.

McAllister called that a “big boost” and confirmed that Alfredo Morelos would also be back in the squad for Wednesday after serving his suspension.

McAllister was filling in for Steven Gerrard in the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against St Johnstone on Wednesday.

Jack has missed the last three Premiership games through injury.

Rangers kick-off at 6pm tomorrow before a hectic festive schedule that sees them play Hibs and St Mirren before the next Old Firm game at Ibrox on January 2.

Crunch time

Rangers have got through a week that saw them get knocked out of the League Cup before coming back late to win their next Premiership game against Motherwell.

That showed character and it proved that this is a Rangers squad that doesn’t just win from the front.

Rangers are 16 points clear at the top of the Premiership and that could be 19 points by 8pm tomorrow if Celtic lose again to Ross County.

Ross County beat Celtic 2-0 in a shock League Cup second-round game back at the end of November.

That made Rangers going out of the cup even more disappointing but the Premiership and the Champions League is the ultimate prize this season.

This is crunch time. If Rangers get through the next few weeks, the title could be sewn up.
