Report: Rangers could see Jan deal collapse amid major update; player said deal was all-but done

Rangers face an anxious wait to see if they can sign Colombian striker Juan Alegria next month as a result of the new Brexit rules.

As per the Daily Record, the new rules that dictate which players can be brought into the country could impact the club’s transfer business massively.

The Gers are poised to complete a deal to sign Alegria next month, with the striker himself all-but confirming a deal was done.

However, under the new rules that are currently subject to agreement, he would not be allowed to sign for the club.

Importantly, the report claims that the SFA have written to the UK government about potential special dispensations for the Scottish game.

They are reportedly asking for the current work permit rules to remain in place throughout January before being changed to a points-based system, which could give clubs time to adapt through the upcoming window.

A game-changing decision

The SFA are clearly pushing for some sort of change to the rules for Scottish football and rightly so.

Should the current projected rules go through, many clubs, not just Rangers, would miss out on a host of international players.

While there are several benefits of nurturing homegrown talents, the rules, as they are currently, could drastically change the face of Scottish football and the potential money that comes with signing young stars from abroad.

Rangers face an anxious wait now, with the report claiming a decision could be made by the end of the month.

The SFA’s proposals would allow the Gers to complete a move for Alegria in January and we hope that they are accepted.
