‘It’s very sizeable’ – Rangers chief details true cost of getting Gers back to the top
Rangers deputy chairman Josh Bennett has explained that it has cost £65 million to get the Gers back to the top of the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers are establishing themselves as the best team in Scotland this season but that new status has come at a cost.
Bennett delivered this update during the club’s annual general meeting on Tuesday and admitted that himself and others have invested more money in the club in the last few days and weeks.
The Scottish Sun quote Bennett as saying, “I think I’m right in saying that since March 2015, the current group of investors have invested around £65million – and rising.
“In recent days and weeks the chairman, Julian Wolhardt, myself and Alastair Johnston have all invested further. We’ve recently been joined by three successful businessmen here in Scotland so again it’s a broadening church.
“But if you look at that group of investors and what they’ve committed – and continue to commit – it’s very sizeable.”
Clearly, a lot of money has been invested in the club but the rewards are starting to be seen after the club’s incredible start to the season.
With Steven Gerrard’s side unbeaten in the league and in Europe almost halfway through the season, it is looking likely that the silverware drought at Ibrox won’t last for much longer.
Success will help to offset the amount of money that investors have pumped into the club with a highly coveted Champions League place a nice bonus if the Gers can secure top spot in the Premiership.
Hearing the sheer amount of money that has been invested in the club puts into perspective how hard it is to achieve anything in football without money.
All Gers fans will be incredibly grateful for every penny that has helped save their club and hopefully, in a few months, the true rewards will be reaped by everyone at Rangers.
