Tam McManus backs ‘Outstanding’ Rangers ace for triple award haul in 20/21 season

Tam McManus has backed Rangers skipper James Tavernier to finish this season with three different awards after his cracking start.

The BBC pundit has predicted that the defender could pick up the Premiership title, the Golden Boot and the Player of the Year award.

Tavernier shined once again at Tannadice on Sunday, scoring a world-class free-kick and delivering an assist in the 2-1 win over Dundee United.

Speaking on Monday’s PLZ Football Show, McManus claimed that Tavernier is well on the way to picking up three pieces of silverware this season.

“I think Tavernier has been outstanding this season,” he said.

“He’s definitely the Player of the Season so far, and if he keeps it up, he might end winning the league, the player of the year, and the top goalscorer – what a season that would be for him.”

Tavernier is having the season of his life.

The 29-year-old has been out of this world and is putting together one of the best seasons by a full-back in any competition ever – scoring 17 goals and delivering nine assists.

It would be a surprise to see no one come in for the Bears skipper in January, with Tottenham and Everton reportedly keeping an eye on his performances.

Rangers are currently cruising to the title, and if that happens, Tavernier is surely all but guaranteed to pick up the Player of the Year award.

Hibernian’s Kevin Nisbet and Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson are his closest competitors in the goalscoring charts and given Celtic’s poor form, there aren’t any direct rivals Tavernier needs to be wary of.

Tavernier is playing out of his skin, and this would be the perfect end to the perfect season.
