‘Miracles’ – Chris Sutton claims Celtic & Rangers title race is ‘nearly over’
Chris Sutton has claimed that the race for the Scottish Premiership between Rangers and Celtic is “nearly over” already in December.
Steven Gerrard’s side are currently unbeaten in all competitions and hold a 13-point gap over their fierce rivals, who currently sit in third.
The Hoops icon has admitted that his former side need to perform a miracle in order to catch Gerrard and the Gers.
Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport on Saturday evening, Sutton questioned whether or not Celtic can catch the high-flying Bears this season.
“He’s never going to have a more difficult job in football,” he said.
“This season, is the league over? It’s nearly over, Celtic have got to perform miracles to get back in the race and that’s a credit to him. I think defensively this season, Rangers look so strong, especially domestically.”
This will have hurt Sutton to say.
He has always loved a joke at the expense of the Bears, but this season, we have finally started to take control and he can’t help but admire us.
The job isn’t done yet though. Last season, Rangers could have gone on to win the title after winning the Old Firm but collapsed and lost against the likes of Hearts.
That can’t happen again, and Gerrard is certainly keeping his players grounded in this campaign – something that is clear to see in these performances.
Another three points against Dundee United would certainly put the pressure on Celtic ahead of their clash with Kilmarnock, a game where defeat would see them stay third behind Hibernian.
