Rangers line up ‘sensational’ January loan move, PL side open to short-term deal – report
Billy Gilmour could be set for a “sensational” return to Rangers in a loan deal until the end of the season, according to the Scottish Sun.
The report claims that Rangers are keen on a loan deal for the youngster, who started his career at Ibrox.
And it also claims that Chelsea are open to a short-term deal that would see Gilmour return to Ibrox for the rest of the season.
Gilmour has made two Champions League appearances for Chelsea this season and started against Krasnodar on Tuesday.
Lampard had previously said, “I’m not sure about a loan. The way Billy trains and plays I can see him with us.
“So I have to make sure the pathway is right. We have to think about what’s best.”
However, it seems that he might have had a change of heart.
Move makes so much sense
Gilmour is right on the fringes of the Chelsea first-team but is going to struggle to get any meaningful game time for the rest of the season.
He hasn’t played any minutes in the Premier League and has been limited to the EFL Trophy and Premier League 2.
He got a start in the Champions League because Chelsea had already topped the group but it’s hard to see where Gilmour gets game-time now.
He put in a really solid display last night, too, with the Evening Standard giving him a 7/10 and saying, “So hard to knock off the ball and so often picks the right pass. His tenacious tackling proved there are no concerns about his knee.”
He made six Premier League appearances last season with two starts and would be a really exciting addition to an already stacked Rangers midfield.
A move to Rangers would make sense on so many levels, with Gilmour joining a group of players who are riding high in Europe and in the Premiership.
The fixture list is going to be brutal for Rangers, who unlike Celtic are still in the Europa League.
There’s no winter break and Gerrard could do with all the bodies he can get – especially ones of the quality of Gilmour.
