Steven Gerrard has confirmed Rangers duo Filip Helander and Ryan Jack will miss Thursday night’s clash against Lech Poznan in the Europa League.
Helander, 27, has missed the last three matches after testing positive for COVID-19 while Jack, 28, has been out since the win against Aberdeen on November 22 with an injury.
However, although both players will miss the final Europa League group stage clash, in which the Gers will aim to win and top their group, they should be in contention to return to action on Sunday against Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership.
Gerrard has also offered an update on forward Cedric Itten, adding that he’s a doubt after suffering a knock in the 4-0 win against Ross County on Sunday.
No fresh injuries. We have made a decision on Helander and Jack to be patient and keep them for the weekend. Cedric (Itten) got a kick at the weekend but is progressing.”

Although Rangers do have something to play for in Poland on Thursday night, we do not want to see Gerrard risk players like Helander or Jack when they might not be up to full speed.
We want to see the Gers win every match and do well in Europe but the biggest priority this season is winning the Scottish Premiership title.
It’s so far so good for the Govan giants, who are 13 points clear of Celtic at the top of the table but there is absolutely no room to take the foot off the gas.
Jack is one of the club’s best players and although Helander had a couple of howlers in matches before his positive COVID test, the Swedish centre-back is someone who we cannot do without in the bid to win the title.
As for Itten, we don’t want to see him risked on Thursday too.
Even though he’s a fringe player, the Swiss forward is someone who may be relied upon if there are other injuries in the squad.
Let’s get through Thursday night unscathed and really press on in the domestic competitions over the coming weeks.
In other Rangers news, Darren Jackson has been raving about this “brilliant” Ibrox-linked player.
