‘What a man’ – Derek Ferguson awestruck by influence of ‘Incredible’ Rangers ace

Derek Ferguson has showered praise on Rangers forward Jermain Defoe and how he influences the Bears.

The 38-year-old made his 800th career appearance in the 4-0 win at Ross County on Sunday afternoon, finding the back of the net.

Ferguson claimed that Defoe is having a massive influence on the dressing at Ibrox as they charge towards the title.

Speaking on the Blues Brothers podcast, both Ian Durrant and Ferguson couldn’t have heaped more praise on the veteran forward.

“What a man,” he said.

“Incredible. The nick he is in if you look at him, he just seems to be so professional. I think he’s a big influence on the dressing room.

“He comes on and affects games, that’s what he is doing at the minute. The goal was brilliant, what a turn it is – it’s a wonderful touch, the swivel and he gets it into the back of the net, amazing.”

Steven Gerrard admitted that he has a different training routine for the veteran forward and it is definitely working out.

Alfredo Morelos was a frustrated figure against Ross County and was replaced without going close to scoring once again.

Defoe came on to the pitch and with his first action, found the back of the net with a perfect turn and finish in Dingwall.

The English legend is playing a perfect part, albeit a rotation one, and this add squad depth is pushing the Gers easily towards their first title in nearly 10 years.
