‘We need to be realistic’ – Lennon makes claim about Premiership as Rangers charge continues
Under-pressure Celtic manager Neil Lennon admits that his side are ‘making it more difficult’ for themselves to retain their Scottish Premiership title this season, as Rangers continue to go from strength to strength.
Speaking after Celtic’s 1-1 draw against St Johnstone on Sunday, as reported by the Daily Mail, Lennon revealed that 10-in-a-row is looking increasingly unlikely for the Hoops: “Listen, we need to be realistic. I wouldn’t say it’s over, but we are making it more difficult for ourselves.”
Lennon’s title admission came just hours after another strong performance from Steven Gerrard’s men away to Ross County, as the Gers extend their lead at the top of the table to 13 points, having played an extra two games compared to their rivals.
The 4-0 win against Ross County was another impressive display from Rangers, who look set for league glory this season.
Despite what the scoreline suggests, the trip to Victoria Park was not so straightforward for Gerrard’s men.
Ross County defended deep and looked to frustrate the away side, who had to be patient, with two goals coming in the last 20 minutes of the game.
Kemar Roofe opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark, before goals from James Tavernier, an own goal from Callum Morris and a Jermain Defoe strike wrapped up proceedings.
Gerrard’s side are still yet to taste defeat in the league this season and have only conceded an impressive three goals along the way, with Rangers looking unstoppable in their current form.
