‘Makes me smile’ – Derek Ferguson claims Rangers mainstay will go down in Ibrox history
Derek Ferguson has claimed that Allan McGregor will go down in Rangers history after breaking the European appearance record.
The veteran stopper broke the previous record held by Barry Ferguson against Standard Liege and is keeping Jon McLaughlin out of the side.
McGregor made a phenomenal save against Ross County on Sunday, as the Bears kept up their great defensive record this season.
Ferguson praised McGregor, claiming that the only Rangers keeper better in history is Andy Goram after his career.
“He’s right up there at the top,” he said on the Blues Brothers Podcast.
“I think he’s second. I love McGregor, he makes me smile and the reason he makes me smile is the save he made on Sunday, I wasn’t surprised becuase he always pulls that out the drawer.
“I think comes just behind Andy Goram for me. He’s a phenomenal goalkeeper and very similar to Andy, doesn’t come for a lot of cross balls, but his shot-stopping is absolutely top-drawer.”
McGregor has made 270 appearances for the Gers, and will certainly go down in his history after more than 10 years at Ibrox.
Comparing that to Goram, ‘the goalie’ made 184 appearances across seven years spell in the successful nineties.
Both will go down in history, and it doesn’t matter whether they are the best or in second, it is just great for the duo to be in the discussion.
McGregor isn’t called into action often, but his save on Sunday was a timely reminder of his quality in-between the sticks and he will be raring to bring the title back to Ibrox.
