‘Very important’ – McCoist thrilled at Gers star who offers ‘something different’ to Gerrard
Rangers legend Ally McCoist hailed Scott Arfield after his match-winning contribution during the Gers’ 3-2 Europa League win against Standard Liege at Ibrox on Thursday.
The victory ensured Rangers’ progression to the knockout phase of the Europa League, with Steven Gerrard’s team knowing that a win over Lech Poznan will see them top the group.
After the game, Arfield said that it was a “very memorable” night and McCoist was impressed with his words and performance.
“Don’t you just love that interview?” he said (via Glasgow Live).
“He’s just loving life, he’s loving playing for the Rangers, he’s loving training, he’s loving scoring goals. It’s brilliant.
“I’m thrilled for him, I’m delighted for him. I’m delighted with what he’s serving us up, it’s great. Very important goals. He gives us something different in the middle of the park where he goes beyond the front players.”
Arfield was sensational against Standard Liege and has shown on a consistent basis that he can score important goals.
He has scored seven goals and provided five assists this season (via WhoScored), and his comments after the match showed how much playing for the club means to him.
He said (via Glasgow Live): “I love it. I’m loving it. I always do. Football is the greatest gift anyone has given me so any time I can go and play, particularly with a club this size and nights like this then it’s very memorable.”
To anyone that has watched Arfield, it is clear that he has immense desire on the field and it is his off-the-ball running that allows him to score so many goals and get so many shots.
