Rangers star major doubt v Ross County, Gerrard confirms multiple ‘minor knocks’

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed Ryan Jack is a major doubt for this weekend’s clash against Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.

The Light Blues return to league action at Dingwall on Sunday after qualifying for the knock-out stages of the Europa League with a stunning comeback to beat Standard Liege on Thursday night.

Jack, 28, has missed the Gers’ last three matches against Benfica, Falkirk and Liege and now looks as though he’s set to miss a fourth.

Speaking on Friday ahead of the trip to Victoria Park, Gerrard also revealed that there are other players in his squad who are walking wounded at the moment but should be available come Sunday.

Gerrard was quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account as saying: “Jack is unlikely to be available for the weekend. Everyone else should be fine, a few minor knocks but should all make it.”

Jack has been one of the stars of the season at Ibrox this year.

According to stats by WyScout, no player has averaged more passes per 90 minutes of Scottish Premiership football this season than the former Aberdeen captain [98.85].

Jack also averages more progressive passes per 90 minutes than anyone in the top-flight [15.86], which means he makes forward passes that significantly move his side up the pitch more than anyone else in Scotland.

Jack’s not a deep-lying playmaker who just passes the ball sideways or backwards whenever he’s feeling a bit of pressure, he is usually always able to pick out a team-mate further up the field.

Without him, Rangers are not as good a team but we’d still expect Gerrard’s men to secure all three points this weekend against Ross County.
