‘Greatest sight I have seen’, ‘Bouncing’ – Some Rangers fans react to official club post

English stadiums open their doors to fans tonight, albeit in limited numbers, for the first time since the original lockdown in March.

However, there’s still been no word from Nicola Sturgeon on when Rangers fans can get into Ibrox.

SPFL Chief Neil Doncaster wrote to Sturgeon last week and said, “If the First Minister refuses to allow football fans all over Scotland to watch their beloved teams in carefully-regulated, limited numbers, complete with track and trace, she will have to explain to them the clinical difference between Scottish fans and English fans.”

He makes a good point.

In the meantime, Rangers posted a poignant and spine-tingling picture of Ibrox and plenty of Bears responded on Twitter.

Playing football behind closed doors may have become the new normal but this picture brought memories of Ibrox flooding back for fans.

Given what is allowed, it seems ridiculous that a small number of Gers fans can’t attend games in an outdoor stadium.

There is positive news. A vaccine is just around the corner and political pressure will surely mean that Scotland has to mirror England if the return of fans is successful.

However, there are still reminders south of the border that things could change at any point. The game between Newcastle and Aston Villa on Friday is the first Premier League game to be postponed because of a Covid outbreak.

The Rangers game against Standard Liege on Thursday will be played behind closed doors and it should see Gers qualify for the group stage of the Europa League.

We desperately hope some fans can return to Ibrox at that point.
