Rangers fans have been raving about Connor Goldson after the centre-back impressed in the first half of the Scottish League Cup clash against Falkirk.

Goldson, 27, started the season mainly known as a tough, no-nonsense centre-back who strikers hate playing against.

However, against Celtic he was the two-goal hero in a 2-0 Old Firm victory and against Falkirk this weekend, the defender was dubbed “the next Pirlo” after a stunning pass to assist Jermain Defoe’s opening goal.

In the sixth minute, Goldson launched a stunning long-range pass which looked to travel around two-thirds of the way across the pitch at Falkirk Stadium to find Defoe rushing into the box.

Although Defoe’s touch took him slightly wide, the Rangers striker showed why he is the best finisher in Scottish football to tuck the ball into the back of the net.

It was superb work by Defoe but that pass by Goldson – wow. We hope it doesn’t get forgotten in a hurry simply because this is a League Cup clash away at League One side Falkirk.

But, based on the reaction of supporters, Goldson’s pass will live long in the memory of those who saw it.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Goldson has been one of the most under-rated players at Rangers this season, in our opinion.

Yes, the Gers’ defensive record has been talked about a lot but when people talk about players who stand out, who do they mention?

You hear plenty about the Ryan Kents, the James Taverniers, the Glen Kamaras and the Ryan Jacks. But how often do you hear about Goldson?

He’s been brilliant and he deserves all the praise he gets.
