Jack Wilshere has claimed that he has not been in contact with Rangers about a potential move despite reports in the summer claiming he was in ‘advanced talks’ with the club.
Journalist Nicolo Schira claimed that the Gers were in advanced talks for the former Arsenal man this summer but it now seems that this report may have been incorrect.
Speaking to Beanyman Sports, Wilshere admitted his admiration for Gers boss Steven Gerrard but said he has not been approached by Rangers.
He said, “There’s been no contact. I’ve read all the rumours, but honestly, there’s been no contact.
“Listen, I played with Gerrard for England, I watched him growing up. He was one of my heroes growing up and he’s a legend. But there’s been no contact.”
With the amount of rumours following Wilshere since his West Ham contract was ripped up on transfer deadline day it is slightly surprising to hear that there has been no contact at all from Rangers.
There are always question marks over Wilshere’s fitness whenever he is linked with a new club as his career has been largely defined by the multiple long term injuries the former Arsenal man has suffered.
His wages may also be an issue for any potential move as Rangers would struggle to match the Premier League wages Wilshere would potentially demand.
These are just a few reasons as to why the club may not have approached Wilshere but Gers fans will be disappointed after being linked with a player who, on his day, can produce real quality.
Rangers legend Ally McCoist told The Scottish Sun that he would love Wilshere at Ibrox, saying, “We’d have him in two minutes because the boy can play and Ibrox is the perfect arena for him to parade his skills.”
Wilshere is still looking for a new club but it seems that wherever he goes next in his career, he won’t be moving to Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, Tam McManus has been blown away by one Gers star since his summer move to Ibrox.
