Plenty of Rangers fans were impressed with Calvin Bassey during the Gers 4-0 League Cup win over Falkirk as the 20-year-old fringe player scored his first goal for the club.

After Jermain Defoe opened the scoring the former Leicester City man doubled the lead, following in after Cedric Itten’s header was saved to score from close range.

Borna Barisic made it 3-0 from a direct free-kick just before half-time and Steven Gerrard’s side cruised to victory in the second half, with James Tavernier scoring the fourth on the volley on the 50-minute mark.

Bassey showed his versatility in the first-half by starting at centre-back, with the majority of his minutes coming at left-back following his move over the summer.

Since arriving at Ibrox Bassey has impressed, starting twice in the league in the absence of Barisic and making only six appearances overall.

So far this season in the league, he averages 37.6 accurate passes, 0.9 dribbles, 2.8 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per 90 minutes (via WhoScored).

In response to his appearance, one supporter praised his ability to perform in whatever position he is selected, while another said that they expect to see him as a regular starter over the next couple of seasons.

Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter.
