Rangers disappointingly let a lead slip once again in the Europa League on Thursday, drawing 2-2 with Benfica.

A massive part of the Bears success this season has been their defensive record, conceding less than 10 goals in all competitions. That didn’t help tonight, the Bears losing a two-goal lead when cruising.

Steven Gerrard started with Conor Goldson and Leon Balogun in defence, and their shining partnership didn’t continue under the pressure.

Goldson has been the one to keep his spot in defence with the likes of Filip Helander dropping out and he has stepped up massively this season, improving dramatically.

His two goals against Celtic is the highlight of course, but he will be keeping tally of each clean sheet he keeps, tonight not being one of those games.

Goldson almost tried his best to ruin that though, messing about in possession in the dying moments of the draw – nearly costing his side.

It isn’t what we have come to expect of the former Brighton man, and he will need to look back and improve after his first poor outing in weeks.

Many Rangers fans have reacted to the performance of Goldson against the Portuguese side, and they weren’t happy.

The majority claimed that the defender was playing like a schoolboy in the final half an hour, and needed to give his head a shake.
