Ibrox View: Rangers fans must enjoy this squad while they can after Gerrard admission

Steven Gerrard’s comments about the financial situation at Rangers mean that Gers fans should enjoy the current squad as much as they can before the stars are inevitably sold.

The Gers currently have their best squad in a decade as they boast some of the best players in Scotland across all areas of the pitch.

Rangers fans are rightly enjoying their side’s performances as they remain unbeaten this season but this current group of players may not be together for very long.

In his pre-Benfica press conference, Gerrard said, “The team is littered now with big assets. The team is worth an awful lot of money now compared to what it was.”

This follows recent news about the Gers’ finances as the club announced a £15.9million loss up to June 30 of this year.

This means the club may be forced to sell a first-team player or two to balance the books.

Of course, a strong run in Europe and a league title that would deliver Champions League football would help ease any financial strain but the easiest way for the Gers to make money quickly is through the sale of players.

Gerrard confirmed that his players are now ‘big assets’ which mean any of a number of players could be sold to dig Rangers out of any potential financial hole.

Alfredo Morelos was linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer as was Ryan Kent. Both of these players are incredibly important to Rangers and are favourites in the eyes of the Ibrox faithful.

It would be devastating if either player was to leave which means Gers fans should enjoy the players while they can as they attract interest from European clubs.

Other high-value assets like Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara are sure to have suitors from bigger clubs in the future and it may be hard for players of their quality to turn down a move to the Premier League or another top European division.

The problem with having such a talented squad is that many players will be targets for other clubs.

The last thing Gers fans will want to see is another crisis that saw the death of their club in the early 2010s and selling a few first-team players may be the best way to avoid that.

So let’s enjoy the quality Gerrard currently has at his disposal before it inevitably disappears in the near future.
