‘Here we go again’, ‘See you in February’ – Many Rangers fans worried by first-team injury blow
Rangers fans are worried about Bongani Zungu after Steven Gerrard confirmed the midfielder will miss the match against Benfica on Thursday night.
As quoted on Rangers’ official Twitter account on Wednesday, Gerrard said that Ryan Jack is a doubt for the Europa League group stage clash at Ibrox before adding that Zungu, 28, “will also be missing”.
Even though Gerrard made it clear that he hopes Zungu will be available to play “in a week”, some Rangers fans are concerned that the South Africa international will be out for longer.
Zungu arrived at Ibrox on loan from Amiens on October 5 and since then he’s made just one appearance when he played the whole second half of the 8-0 win over Hamilton.
The midfielder has had to get through a period in self-isolation after arriving in Glasgow and last week, he returned from international duty with South Africa with an injury.
It’s not the most ideal of starts to life in Govan for Zungu but his lack of game-time has led to some fans suggesting he could be the new Jordan Rossiter or might even be out until the New Year.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
For now, let’s just trust Gerrard that Zungu will be back next week.
Yes, it happened with Rossiter but that was just one case – there’s no need to jump to that conclusion with Zungu.
We want to see more of the South African midfielder, especially as he’s only currently on loan at Ibrox.
