‘It’s not an ideal situation’ – PL manager shares contract update on Rangers-linked ace
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder admitted that the contract situation surrounding John Lundstram is not “ideal”, with Rangers said to be interested.
The midfielder is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a move to Glasgow (via The Athletic).
Lundstram has refused to sign a new deal at Bramall Lane, with the Blades potentially looking to sell him in January in order to recoup a fee for one of their key players from last season.
“It’s not an ideal situation and I want ideal situations,” Wilder said (via Glasgow Live).
“I’d love John to stop. Whoever I pick, they’ll go out there. Whatever happens, there’s no downside to John going out there and doing well.”
With five goals and three assists from 34 Premier League appearances last season, Lundstram is a quality player that could add something to this Rangers side (via WhoScored).
Averaging one shot per game and 1.4 key passes so far this season (via WhoScored), he remains a very valuable asset for the Blades and one they would be loathe to lose for free.
In terms of his fit at Rangers, he is similar in style to Scott Arfield, in that he is not a particularly possession orientated player, but likes to get in the box to shoot or create for those around him.
Arfield is now 32, so he would work as a replacement for the ex-Burnley man going forward. While Rangers do have a number of other players in midfield, Steven Davis is approaching the end of his career and Bongani Zungu is on a season-long loan.
Depending on the price, Rangers should look into making a bid in January. This way there will be less competition for his signature and his wages will not be pushed up by the creation of a bidding war.
