Six Rangers players worth a total of £80m, Morelos third on list – The Athletic
It was just a year ago at the Rangers AGM when Ross Wilson valued Steven Gerrard’s squad at a total of £55m.
What a difference a year makes.
According to data analysis company 21st Club, just six players in the squad are now worth way more than that.
As revealed in The Athletic, the six most valuable Rangers players are now worth £80m and star striker Alfredo Morelos is only the third most valuable player on the list.
The report in The Athletic says, “A full breakdown of the valuation is not possible due to 21st Club’s existing relationships with clubs, but the six players they value highest — Alfredo Morelos (£13 million), Ryan Kent (£18 million), Borna Barisic (£12 million), Connor Goldson (above, £16 million), Joe Aribo (£11 million) and Glen Kamara (£10 million) — add up to £80 million combined.”
Sensational business
It’s never easy to realise the true market value of players in the Scottish Premiership but, if anything, these valuations look conservative.
Morelos would have been seen as the most valuable Rangers player last season but Ryan Kent has come on leaps and bounds since signing.
The fact that Rangers rejected a bid from Premier League Leeds over the summer shows how highly rated he is. And how far Gers have come.
He’s been tipped for a future England squad and that would surely see his valuation rise above £20m.
Connor Goldson has been a rock this season and when you look at how much defenders go for in England – Brighton signed Adam Webster for £20m from the Championship – the same could be said about him, too.
Rangers would also be hoping to get more for Alfredo Morleos.
But the real standout figure from this is that if these valuations are correct, Rangers would stand to make a profit of £67m on them.
That’s incredible business from Gers and should finally put paid to any lingering claims about money worries at the club.
