SFA announce sanctions against Rangers players

Rangers pair Jordan Jones and George Edmundson have each been given a seven-game ban by the Scottish FA as punishment for breaking COVID regulations.

Jones and Edmundson were suspended by Rangers after news emerged that they had broken coronavirus rules and attended a party outside of their households.

Neither player has featured for the Gers since their suspension and now the SFA have announced their own punishment for the Ibrox duo.

The pair have been slapped with an immediate seven-game ban that will begin with this weekend’s game against Aberdeen.

This keeps Jones and Edmundson out of action until mid-December and as it stands they could make their returns against Motherwell just six days before Christmas.

It remains to be seen what role the duo will play in the rest of the Gers’ season after Steven Gerrard seemed to suggest that both players would remain at the club in quotes reported by Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.

Neither player has had too much of an impact on the Gers’ season so far. They were both on the scoresheet in the Light Blues’ win over Motherwell earlier in the season.

Jones started the game and scored Rangers’ second before Edmundson came off the bench late on to turn a Motherwell corner into his own net in the 5-1 win.

Rangers wouldn’t suffer too badly if both players were let go, as some fans hoped they would be. But they now have a chance to make amends once their respective bans are finished in seven games time.

The Gers are next in action against Aberdeen on Sunday as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

In other Rangers news, this Gers ace was on top form for his country on Wednesday night.
