‘I don’t think…’ – Charlie Adam makes Rangers claim when discussing Gerrard-Leeds link
Charlie Adam has claimed that Steven Gerrard won’t be looking to leave Rangers soon, despite links with Leeds United.
Football Insider reported on Wednesday that the Premier League side are closely monitoring Gerrard should Marcelo Bielsa leave Elland Road.
This would be the third time links between the two have arisen, with the Bears playing the best football they’ve managed this season.
Adam, though, believes that there would be no reason for Gerrard to leave Ibrox, especially before he has delivered the Scottish title to the club.
“He’s built that reputation,” he said on PLZ Soccer.
“Listen, he’s done a great job so far in terms of rebuilding the whole football club, it was in a mess when he went there and he’s had a bit of funding, some money to spend, but in Europe, they’re progressing year on year, look a better side in the league.
“The most important thing for them will be getting this title. I don’t think he’ll be looking to leave Rangers any time soon.”
It is clear to see why outside clubs could start to target Gerrard.
Rangers have been sensational this season, and are still unbeaten in all competitions. The Bears have also kept one of the best defensive records in Europe.
Should the Liverpool icon halt Celtic in their charge for 10-in-a-row, he would automatically inherit hero stats in half of Glasgow, and outside interest will grow stronger.
The challenge for the Bears will be how they tempt Gerrard into staying at Ibrox after he has won pieces of silverware, as he may want to challenge himself in the Premier League.
Time will tell, but as for now, we are confident in saying that he is going nowhere.
