‘We’d have him in two minutes’ – McCoist claims Ibrox is ‘Perfect’ for Rangers-linked ace

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has claimed that free agent Jack Wilshere would benefit from a move to Ibrox despite his injury record.

The 28-year-old was linked with a move to Ibrox this summer with journalist Nicolo Schira claiming that the Gers were in advanced talks for the former Arsenal man.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, McCoist compared Wilshere to Paul Gascoigne and Jermain Defoe while justifying why he thinks the former Arsenal man would succeed with Rangers.

He said, “Clearly Jack has suffered from injuries, well few people in the game know more about the demands of being a top midfielder than Steven Gerrard and his No.2 Gary McAllister. I’m sure Jack would benefit, as Jermain Defoe has done, from having his games handpicked without the pressure of having to play three games a week.

“He says he fancies a move to Italy’s Serie A or Spain’s La Liga and I totally get that. But would he be going to a club capable of winning trophies?

“Gazza enjoyed some of his best years of his career with Rangers, so why not Jack Wilshere? We’d have him in two minutes because the boy can play and Ibrox is the perfect arena for him to parade his skills.”

Wilshere had his West Ham contract terminated on the final day of the summer transfer window and he has been linked to a host of clubs in the last few months.

The 28-year-old only made eight Premier League appearances for the Hammers last year after sustaining a long-term groin injury which kept him out of action for a large portion of the season.

His horrendous injury record is perhaps the reason that Wilshere has been unable to find a new club but like McCoist said, Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister know plenty about long-term injuries and they could help the England international avoid them.

Wilshere could be worth taking a punt on if his wages aren’t too high. However, it remains to be seen how much game time he would get at Ibrox with Gerrard having plenty of midfielders to choose from already.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have opened contract talks with one of their hottest young prospects according to a report.
