Ibrox View: Rangers ace disappoints in front of goal despite int’l qualification
Rangers attacker Ianis Hagi captained Romania’s under 21 side to next season’s European championships as his team drew 1-1 with Denmark’s youth team on Tuesday.
The Gers attacker dropped into his country’s under 21 side for the most recent round of international matches at his own request according to The Scottish Sun.
He has seemingly fallen out of favour with Steven Gerrard after not starting in the Gers’ last three games.
His performance against Denmark won’t have convinced the Rangers boss that he is worth a place in the first team against Aberdeen this weekend.
According to Wyscout, Hagi only managed to get 25% of his shots on target and only 50% of his dribbles were successful.
These stats are fairly poor in general but if you consider that Hagi wasn’t playing against senior players it doesn’t paint a positive picture of the 22-year-old’s performance.
He also only won 33% of his offensive duels which means he wasn’t strong in the tackle against his Danish counterparts.
Only 50% of Hagi’s passes into the penalty area were successful against Denmark which suggests he wasn’t as clinical in front of goal of he could have been.
On a more positive note, Hagi registered a 74% passing accuracy but that is still below his season average of 79.8% passing accuracy.
Overall, only 57% of Hagi’s actions were successful on Tuesday evening which again, is a poor return made even poorer when you consider the quality of opposition he was facing.
Hagi needs to do a lot more if he is to convince Gerrard that he is worth another shot in the Ibrox starting 11 and while the move to play for his country’s under 21 side was maybe the correct one, it hasn’t shown Hagi’s talent off like he was perhaps intending.
In other Rangers news, another Gers player on international duty has been criticised for his most recent performance.
