‘I have heard…’ – Transfer claim made about Rangers player amid speculation
Dundee’s former head of youth development Jimmy Boyle claims that while Glen Kamara is attracting attention from other clubs, he believes Rangers will have no interest in selling the Finland midfielder.
Kamara, 25, has been in sensational form for both Rangers and Finland this season.
The former Dundee and Arsenal midfielder has made 16 appearances in all competitions for the Gers this term while also playing a huge role in Finland’s qualification to the European Championships.
Finland could also win promotion to League A in the Nations League on Wednesday night if they beat Wales in their final match of Group 4.
Kamara is reportedly attracting attention from south of the border and in Europe with TeamTalk claiming last month that Leeds, Everton, Newcastle, Lille and Borussia Dortmund are the teams interested in him.
Boyle, who was at Dundee when Neil McCann signed Kamara, has also heard murmurs about the midfielder’s future at Ibrox.
“I think playing for his country has been important in Glen’s development,” said Boyle, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times. “Every time he goes away on international duty with Finland he does really well. He is getting noticed in Europe as well now. I have heard teams are looking at him.
“He suits the European game. With the schooling he has had at Arsenal, his style of play is ideal for continental football. He has done really well in the Europa League games for Rangers. He has done great getting to where he is now. But he has got the ability to go further.”
There’s no denying Kamara’s brilliance for the Light Blues this season and if a player is performing well, then there is bound to be speculation surrounding his future.
However, Boyle doesn’t see Rangers being in any rush to sell the ex-Dundee man, who cost them just £50,000 last year.
Boyle added: “I would love to see him kicking on again somewhere else at some point in time. I fully believe he has got the technique and the mentality. But that will be up to Glen. If he wants to then I am sure he can do it.
“Rangers will definitely make money on Glen if they decide to sell him. But at this present moment in time they won’t be thinking like that. They will be keen to keep him with it being such a big year for them. They are top of the league and they will want to stay there. They won’t want anybody to go.”
Stats by WyScout show that Kamara ranks fifth in the Scottish Premiership for the number of passes made per 90 minutes this season [75.14] while he also ranks fourth for pass accuracy [92.85%].
If he can continue this kind of form then there are only going to be more teams interested in him and while we’re not worried about losing Kamara just yet, that might change by the time the season is over and the summer transfer window opens.
With Finland playing at the European Championships next summer, there are going to be more and more eyes on Kamara so he’s someone who Rangers need to get tied down to a new and improved contract as soon as possible.
Although they might not have any plans to sell Kamara, their hand might be forced if a big bid comes in.
In other Rangers news, five Aberdeen players have been ruled out of the Dons’ clash against the Gers this weekend.
