Dropped Rangers player makes admission as he aims to break back into Gerrard XI

Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi admits he has “a lot to learn” after being taken out of the side in recent weeks.

The Romania international has made 14 appearances in all competitions so far this season but has played just 20 minutes of Rangers last three fixtures.

Speaking while away on international duty with the under-21 side, Hagi said that there was “incredible” pressure at Ibrox, but that he had enjoyed his time so far.

“Earlier this year, I signed for a club at the highest level,” he said (via Daily Record).

“Rangers have very high ambitions and there is incredible pressure to play for them. I am happy with how it has gone at Rangers both in the championship and in the Europa League.

“I am still at the beginning of my career. I’m proud of what I have achieved already. But I know I still have a lot to learn. Hopefully, I can keep learning and help Rangers because we are very ambitious.

The 22-year-old made a great start to the new season, and has one goal and six assists from 12 Scottish Premiership appearances (via WhoScored).

However, we was left on the bench for Old Firm derby and the Europa League meeting with Benfica, suggesting that Steven Gerrard does not fully trust him in the big games yet.

With 1.1 successful dribbles and 2.5 key passes per 90 minutes, his league showings have been excellent, and the manager is likely wary of overplaying him at such a young age (via WhoScored).

Rangers also have a large squad, with a lot of very experienced midfielders competing for a place in the starting line-up.

The addition of Bongani Zungu has only added more competition, but given the quality Hagi can provide, he remains a very valuable option who will surely be afforded plenty of opportunities moving forward.
