‘Useless’, ‘Nonsense football’ – These fans react to int’l display from Rangers star
Rangers midfielder Bongani Zungu started for South Africa as they continued their chase for an African Cup of Nations final spot on Monday night.
He came off the bench to score in the 2-0 win against Sao Tome on Friday and started in the 4-2 win against the same side last night.
However, some fans weren’t happy with the manner of the victory and Zungu stirred the pot with a tweet that attracted plenty of criticism from fans.
Zungu said after the game, “We lose!! Some of url complain! We win, u say it’s not good enough.”
The main issue the South Africa fans have is that Sao Tome are ranked 182nd out of 210 teams, just below Liechtenstein.
They took the lead in the game last night in the 12th minute and South Africa didn’t respond until the 39th minute.
It was only a flurry of late goals that saw them win the game and even then there was a doubt as Sao Tome scored again to make it 3-2.
However, Zungu was one of the highlights from last night’s game.
According to Goal’s ratings, he got a 7/10 and they said of him, “Great performance from Zungu, who was able to have a greater influence on the Bafana attack from a central role – combing well with his former Mamelodi Sundowns teammates Percy Tau, Keagan Dolly and Themba Zwane.”
It seems that he’s getting criticised for putting his head above the parapets. A win’s a win, though, and we’re delighted to see him play 90 minutes and perform well for his country.
These South Africa fans? Not so much…
