‘Gerrard thinks a lot of him’ – Derek Ferguson claims under-pressure Rangers star is thriving

Derek Ferguson has claimed that Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack has done “extremely well” since working under Steven Gerrard.

The former Bears star believes that many players have crumbled under the pressure of the number eight shirt, but that Jack has thrived in that.

Jack played a starring role as Scotland qualified for EURO 2021 last week and Ferguson believes the 28-year-old is one of the first names on that team sheet.

Speaking on the Blues Brothers podcast, Ferguson showered Jack in praise and believes that Gerrard thinks exactly the same.

“He’s done extremely well, I’ve seen him kick on since he came from Aberdeen,” he said. “Under Steven Gerrard, I’ve seen a vast improvement in him – his overall game.

“His passing, his decision-making for me is a hell of a lot better. Sometimes that jersey can be a bit big in terms of people don’t handle that. He’s a guy who’s come to the club and he’s thrived in that.

“Obviously, Gerrard thinks a lot of him.”

Gerrard has made his squad around the power of Jack in midfield, and he has made 11 appearances in the Scottish League already.

The 28-year-old has been superb, and will often go under the radar as the attacking players such as Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo take the headlines.

Jack averages almost five interceptions per game and has completed over 90% of his passes this season according to WyScout as he plays a major role in this success.

Ferguson is spot on. Without Jack, the Bears may struggle to dominate games as well, and he will continue to thrive in that role as long as he is given the responsibility.
