‘Definitely’ – Exclusive: McLeish makes claim about Celtic fans as Rangers home in on 55
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has said he thinks there will “definitely” be “doubt creeping in” among Celtic fans as Rangers sit unbeaten and nine points ahead of them in the Premiership.
There’s still a long way to go but Rangers have had a brilliant start to the season both domestically and in Europe and have all the momentum in the title race.
They face a tough Aberdeen side on Sunday, though, and McLeish warned that the league can change quickly.
Talking exclusively to Ibrox News McLeish said, “Well, there will be a doubt creeping in, definitely, amongst the Celtic fans with what’s going on at the moment.
“Rangers fans are exuberant and rightly so.
“But, I’ve said before, this league can change quickly. Both sides will win the majority of their games in the Premiership for the rest of the season, it certainly looks that way.
“But it really looks very much like Rangers have finally strengthened to be able to challenge Celtic all season.
“Let’s face it, they’re still the team they have to stop if Rangers are going to win the 55th title. They know they’ve got to stop Celtic and there’s a long way to go yet.”
There is a long way to go but Rangers have only conceded three goals in 14 games in the Premiership and they’re unbeaten in Europe, halfway through the group stage.
Considering the calibre of opposition they’ve come up against, that’s a phenomenal record and confidence is rightly sky high.
Another three points against Aberdeen and Celtic will know they can’t afford any more slip-ups.
