Confirmed: Rangers star drops out of international squad, will miss Weds clash

Rangers midfielder Steven Davis has dropped out of the current Northern Ireland squad on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears midfielder has returned to Glasgow and will miss Wednesday night’s game with Romania in the UEFA Nations League.

The Northern Irish FA has released a short statement, and have shared that his absence is due to “personal reasons.”

There seems to be a lot of quiet surrounding this matter.

It has come up out of nowhere, and we are crossing our fingers that it isn’t something that will keep Davis out of the Rangers squad for too long.

Davis completed 120 minutes against Slovakia last week, and also came on for the second half against Austria on Sunday.

Northern Ireland need three points against the Romanians at Windsor Park to stand any chance of survival in their tough group.

Steven Gerrard will be keeping a close eye on any potential developments ahead of the tough clash with Aberdeen coming up.

It is uncertain whether or not COVID-19 will be involved, but if it was, the 35-year-old would need to quarantine for 10 to 14 days.

That would see Davis definitely miss the Aberdeen game, and also the crunch clash with Benfica in the Europa League.

The Bears certainly have the options to rotate with Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack in midfield, but Davis’ experience would be a real miss in-and-around the Ibrox dressing room.

If it was to do with the virus, that information surely will have been disclosed so all we can do for now is wish that Davis is well – that comes first.
