‘Really important’ – Beale details why Gerrard is getting it right for Gers in transfer market

Rangers assistant Michael Beale believes that Steven Gerrard has a “clean eye for recruitment” and spends time with new young players in order to get to know and understand them.

Beale joined the club alongside Gerrard in 2018, having previously worked for the Liverpool academy.

Speaking to Coaches Voice during the international break, he hailed the former England midfielder and praised his style of management.

“It’s been fantastic getting to know Steven,” he told Coaches Voice.

“He’s got really high standards as a human being in the way he carries himself every day. He has fantastic self discipline and I think he really pushes that across to the players well, he communicates fantastically well with the staff and the players and he deals with the media really well.

“He shows a lot of qualities that modern managers need to show. He has a really clean eye for recruitment and the type of young player he wants to work with so he spends a lot of time in a one-to-one basis talking to those players and understanding them. I think that’s really important. There’s a real push within the club that people won’t see from outside to put some really strong structures in place.”

It took Gerrard time to have a real impact at Rangers, but it seems that things are really falling into place for him this season.

With 14 matches gone in the Scottish Premiership, his side are top with a nine-point lead and remain unbeaten this season.

As Beale notes, he looks to have recruited well throughout his time with the club, with recent additions including youngster Calvin Bassey making strides in the first team and Bongani Zungu impressing on his debut.

Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis proved shrewd signings late into their careers, while the likes of Ianis Hagi, Joe Aribo, Glen Kamara and Ryan Kent have added a sense of youth and quality that was not previously evident.

This has allowed Rangers to take the step up domestically and in Europe, and Ibrox once more looks like a destination for talented youngsters.
