Ibrox View: Rangers outperforming Celtic despite £20m+ difference in financial figures

Rangers couldn’t have wished for a better start to this season, and are currently still unbeaten in all competitions.

On the other hand, Celtic are struggling and their hopes of 10 titles in-a-row appear to be getting smaller by the week.

Steven Gerrard has inspired this huge change in Glasgow, and getting our hands on silverware this season would be everything the Bears deserve.

It is understated just how well Gerrard and his squad are performing though.

Celtic have dominated Scotland for far too long, and their financial power is one of the main reasons behind all of that.

Financial expert Kieran Maguire has shared the figures behind their success, and it shows a huge difference between the Old Firm clubs.

In an article for CFB Football, Maguire highlighted the difference in wage budgets in the past five years and there has been a £20million-plus gap between the two sides.

Even as late as last year, Celtic were spending £21.6million more than the Gers – not that you could tell on the pitch.

That figure did get significantly smaller from the 2018 numbers and could do again this year, but it shows that Rangers are using the transfer market more effectively.

Celtic have thrown money at many different European imports such as Diego Laxalt from AC Milan, whereas Rangers have been smart by bringing in the likes of Ryan Kent and Kemar Roofe.

The Bears board and Gerrard have to be praised for their work to halt Celtic on a smaller budget, and they are doing that perfectly right now.
