‘Huge money’ – Exclusive: McLeish makes Rangers transfer claim
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish thinks that January could be one of the busiest winter transfer windows ever, but that Rangers players will want to stay at Ibrox and be a part of history.
He talked of an “air of confidence” around the club about holding onto players, even if the Premier League come with big offers.
He also warned that losing players could risk denting the momentum that Rangers have at the moment as they sit top of the Premiership and are unbeaten in all competitions.
Talking exclusively to Ibrox News McCleish said, “When the Premier League come for you they can come with huge money.
“And this window might be different from previous windows because of the unprecedented situation we’re in at the moment.
“And therefore, could the January window be one of the busiest ever because teams have been in hibernation and now they’ll be bursting to spend money?
“They’re still heavily funded in terms of sponsorship and so the English teams could be predators.
“But there’s an air of confidence at Ibrox with players saying they want to be a part of this and they’ll give their all and think of the future after this season.
“There will be more than a few that want to be a part of what’s going on and remain a part of it.
“Right now, the one thing that Rangers have is momentum. If that gets disrupted then, you know, that could be a step back.
“You saw when Celtic lost four or five good players and they’ve had adverse results and performances
“It’s hard on the manager in that situation because everybody thinks it’s his fault. But even if you replace these players you lose a bit of rhythm.
“It’s going to be an important window for Rangers.”
